I’ve been instructing a Boot Camp in Manchester for around 3 years now, we have those people that keep coming back for more every month, I think there are lots of reasons for this – they enjoy the sessions, they come to hear my witty one-liners
– but more than all that I think they come to train and work hard with like-minded people who will push each other session after session! The sum of the parts that goes into a boot camp session is far greater than the individual components. Regardless of who you are, there’s no way you’d work this hard alone, instead when you train in a group (like we do down at the Sweat Shed) you’re thinking “I’m not stopping if she’s not!” or “I’m gonna go faster than him!” We’re certainly not out to exclude people from our sessions – Age range, ability levels, fitness levels are all massively varied! But we all have that one thing in common, WE WANT TO TRAIN! and WE WANT TO TRAIN HARD! We will get through whatever workout is put in front of us to the best of our ability, kicking and screaming if need be
But we’ll do it and we’ll feel great when it’s over! I give the guys a little bit of shit from time to time, they’ll be the first to say it’s with due reason! I don’t do it to be a dick but if I feel they’re underperforming or going easy, that’s not how I roll and as a result that ain’t how anybody on my bootcamp is getting down. Those that “get it” respond positively, up their game and go on to improve week in and week out. Those who don’t “get it” carry on with their loser/wimp/victim/skiving mentality – get no where, stay unfit and are never missed by the group! No space for freeloaders, Blagging their way through sessions on the sweat and graft of others! You wanna be here?! Earn it! These people aren’t worth sharing the atmosphere, me and the Sweat-Shedders share in our sessions. We’re glad that our sessions aren’t poisoned by the negativity of the deadwood for long! As they don’t keep the commitment needed to be a Sweat-Shedder! We’re not the right people for them and they sure as hell ain’t the right people for us! but don’t worry there’s some gym some place with a stationary bike with their name on it!! 2011 is half way through and I’ve been very quiet on the blog front due to setting up Sweat Shed and being generally up to my eye balls. During my time away from the blog I’ve discovered my 2011 is the year of the rant, I tried to keep it tame here for my return blog post. I have lots on my mind to talk about and believe me it will be said! All I set out to say was that if you really want to get somewhere, in training or in any situation. I encourage you to get rid of the deadwood and surround yourself with the right people, those that reflect traits in yourself or that crank your own characteristics up notch. So the next time the going gets tough – don’t end up on the wrong side of the fence! Don’t indicate into the slow lane and let them lap you! stick two fingers up at them and demand a drag race!! see you at the finish line!!
